Car rental SaaS: founding engineer, MVP in 45 days
Founding Engineer (via Hardmax) · Since 2026
- Zero through MVP in 45 days, in a team of two founding engineers
- I own the core platform architecture and implementation across the full stack
- Local-first sync architecture: the app stays fast and usable on flaky networks
The problem
A founder wanted to turn a working car rental operation into a multi-tenant SaaS platform for bookings, fleet, contracts and payments, and needed a technical partner who could own the whole build, not just contribute to it.
What I did
I joined at inception as one of two founding engineers and own the platform architecture: a local-first TypeScript stack where the UI reads from a synced local store and the backend runs on Cloudflare Workers against Postgres. Business logic that has to be right (bookings, payments, contracts) is written in Effect.ts with explicit error handling instead of try/catch roulette. Infrastructure is code, deployed from CI, with staging and production kept strictly separate.
The outcome
The platform went from zero through MVP in 45 days. It now runs a real rental operation while being built out into a multi-tenant product, and I continue to own the architecture and implementation across the full stack.
